Learn Spanish, French or Chinese language and culture with Middlebury College’s proven language methodology, at one of our exclusive partner schools. Designed specifically for middle school students, the Summer Day Academies offer beginner and intermediate level students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to acquire authentic world language skills and knowledge. 

Each of our host institutions share our standards for excellence in teaching and learning and provide an environment ideally suited for our individualized, interactive, and project-based immersion curriculum. In addition to these resources, each of these campuses offers a safe and accessible location.

National Cathedral School Washington, DC Chinese, French, Spanish June 17-28

Monday, 8 am, June 17 or July 8: Opening Orientation                  

Friday, 5 pm,  June 28 or July 19: Closing Graduation Ceremony   

Daily Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00, for ten days

Drawing upon Middlebury’s immersion methodology and expertise in curriculum design, the gold standard in world language education, the Day Academies are specifically designed for middle school students who are seeking to:

  • Accelerate language learning

  • Expand understanding of world cultures

  • Learn within an immersion environment

The Summer Day Academies engage students in a dynamic learning environment where interactive and hands-on projects educate students about the culture that surrounds the language…all while speaking in the target language and conversing in a very natural environment. Teachers have expertise instruction in the Middlebury immersion methodology, renowned throughout the world for excellence in world language education.

Each day of the Academy, students engage in both classroom instruction and hands on activities, games, crafts and recreation all in the target language!

Beginner and Intermediate levels of instruction are offered at the Academy.
Beginner Level: For students who are new to the language or have had minimum exposure to the language, including the ability to speak very basic words, such as hello, goodbye and numbers. 

Intermediate Level: Designed for students with 2 years or more of formal language study at the middle school level.
