The Campus

Language learning is an adventure, especially on Swarthmore College’s 425-acre arboretum campus. Ranked the #3 National Liberal Arts College in U.S. News and World Report’s 2011 college rankings, Academy students at Swarthmore enjoy access to state of the art “smart” classrooms, the field house, the Crum Woods hiking trails, and amphitheater. The dining hall resembles a ski lodge and provides a relaxing retreat for students between activities on Swarthmore’s campus. Only eleven miles outside of Philadelphia, this suburban location provides easy access to the city. The Academy often uses Philadelphia as a destination for field trips.

The College

Since its founding in 1864, Swarthmore has given students the knowledge, insight, skills, and experience to become leaders for the common good. The College’s liberal arts and engineering curriculum emphasizes academic discovery and civic responsibility. Drawing students from all 50 states and around the world, Swarthmore has a global outlook, which makes it a natural host site for the students of the MMLA. The College has ready access to historic Philadelphia, which hosts a range of Spanish, Mandarin, and French-speaking communities that complement the MMLA program.
